For your convenience we created a MEASUREMENTS CALCULATOR to help you calculate the amount of lawn to buy for your garden.  We also added the required "overlapping" quantity to make sure you don't fall short on lawn on installation day.  With "overlapping quantity" we refer to placing the lawn almost on top of one another at the edges to compensate for roots and leaves dying back where it was cut and prevent open spaces from forming after the lawn is installed.  From years of experience we found that adding 5% to the total compensate best for sufficient overlapping. [For extreme curved areas, add 8% for overlapping and waste.  Lawns with mostly curved edges have a larger percentage of waste if you want to keep installation lines straight]

We know that your architect gave you a very grand house plan with garden measurements to the exact millimeter.  However, you still need to compensate for overlapping.  Use your architect's measurements and add 5% to the total (you can thank us later for this great tip).

FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

  • Draw a map of your garden.  Make a different map for each separated area (e.g. front yard, back yard, pool, etc. - where lawn is completely separated and does not overflow into other areas)

  • Split up your map by creating separate measurable shapes (do this for each map drawn)

  • Number each shape on your map according to the Calculator's fields (e.g. A-F = square / rectangle, G-H = circle, I-J = triangle)

  • Measure each shape and add the measurements to your map. Your map should look like this before you proceed with using the Measurements Calculator.

  • Enter the measurements into Calculator fields.  For circles, type "YES" to calculate either a full circle or only part thereof (½, ¼ or ¾ circle).  When text "NO" shows, no calculations will be done.
